::catch of the year:: (2000)
music and lyrics by reese neal

there’s a million kind of girls out there
you can tell them all by their hair
but that don’t really matter much to me
‘cause they all say the same old thing
the blondies say, “What a hottie”
the brunettes say, “I want your body”
the red-heads bat their eyes and laugh
hand me their numbers as they pass

the curly-haired girls think I’m something special
the straight-haired girls say, “Hey, I bet you’ll
be needing some company later on
give ‘em a kiss and I’m gone

the long haired girls say, “Come here, cutie”
the short haired girls all scream, “Work that bootie!”
and the bald-headed girls with many piercings
yes, even from them do I hear things

they say, “you’re the catch of the year”
that’s all I ever seem to hear
“come on, come sit down over here,
you’re the catch of the year”

something I don’t understand
you see, I’m doing all I can…to avoid them
there’s a million other guys to call on the phone,
so why don’t just a few of you girls leave me alone
I can only handle so much
so many kisses, hugs, and such
and you probably wonder why I complain
when a million other guys would want to be in my place
::A.D.H.D. in Love:: (2001)
music and lyrics by reese neal

my toes wiggle and my feet walk
my eyes  wander and my mouth talks
my legs shake and my knees buckle
my fingers grab and I pop my knuckles
my mind travels and my muscles have twitches
my hair grows and my nose itches
my nose sneezes and my tongue sticks out
my tummy growls and my voice shouts

always movin’, on the go
runnin’ ‘round, continuous flow
of noise and days run together
time for quiet, I see never.

my tear ducts leak and my feet turn in
I get distracted, here we go again
my heart beats hard and my lungs breathe deep
I think about you and I can’t sleep
TV on, radio blarin’
visions of you, I can’t stop starin’
my jaw drops and my soul starts singin’
I can’t hear for all the noise you’re bringin’

with all this commotion, I can see why I can’t hear nothin’
but I wanna hear you when you whisper
when you whisper I wanna listen
::Just Bad Timing:: (2001)
music and lyrics by reese neal

I think it’s time we did some talking
‘cause something’s just not right at all
just last week, I was so special
now you won’t return my call

I think we need to do some talking
just to find out where I stand
yesterday I stood beside you
now, it’s No Man’s Land

I’m here waiting just to ask you
what it was that I did wrong
is there someone else besides me
or did I just come on too strong?

well, if I did how can you blame me
when your eyes are so green?
your mere presence keeps me smilin’
are you as perfect as you seem?

now I’m wondering what you’re thinkin’
wondering what you’re not
I thought we had some potential
but bad timing’s all we got

I think it’s time we did some talking
just what have you got to say?
you tell me that the time has come:
tonight you’re gonna break away

it had to end before it started
but I guess I understand now
if you’ll recall, this happened last year
but it was the other way around

are you sure you wanna run?
if so, then what’s this all about?
I wish you wouldn’t be so hasty
I think we can work it out…

and if I do, how can you blame me
when your eyes are so green?
are you listening to what I’m saying?
are you hearing what I mean?

so that’s two down between us
maybe third time is the charm
if you ever want to see about it
one more won’t do no harm

I wish we could do some talking
but what good would it do?
just bad timing come between us
wasn’t me and it wasn’t you
::Fading:: (2001)
music and lyrics by reese neal

I’m lost again on someone else’s island
I've lost track of days keeping count on my hands
you ever notice how the waves beat their own rhythm?
it’s monotonous just like the life I’ve been living

pretty flowers in the hair of some young maiden
just at the time I’m almost there she goes to fading
motion sickness on the sea
I’ve been taken by the scenery
now I can’t swim for choking on the water

I woke up to find that I’d been sleeping
I can’t remember what or if I dreamed
I turned to you for quiet conversation
and whined again to you about this situation

pretty flowers in the hair of some young maiden
I say, “Hello” and there she goes to fading
motion sickness on the sea
somehow it always gets the best of me
but I won’t drown ‘cause you can walk on water
you help me start all over…
::Mist:: (2001)
music and lyrics by reese neal

she enters with her blue eyes on fire
I burn, I blister, burst into flames
sweet angel, quench this thirst with just one kiss
cool the burning of  these lips
clear the smoke from this one room
let me breathe deep your perfume
I want to listen to the sweet song of your voice
love, you’re the breath that beats my heart

when she sees she always looks right through my skin
pure naked soul, beauty and sin
she makes me forget I’ve ever been lonely
my own heaven-sent, custom-made, best friend
unknowing how she loves me without question
I met grace when she told me her name

Heavenly Maker, does she even exist?
or is she just like a vapor, a vanishing mist?
Heavenly Maker, does she even exist?
or is she just another lost dream, a vanishing mist?
::Heaven-sent:: (2000)
lyrics by steve neal
music by reese neal

where do I go?
and where will she be?
and how will I know she’s the right one for me?

heaven-sent, put here just for you
and you’re heaven-sent, placed here for her alone

doesn’t hit you both like lighting but it could
may not feel just right at first though your mind says it should

you both might paint a picture
of what you’re lookin’ for
and wait with expectation then she walks right through the door

and as you gaze in wild wonder
she’s not what you expected her to be
but deep inside’s a feeling
you say, “She’s the one for me…”
::Small:: (2000)
music and lyrics by reese neal

the doors are closed and I’m inside a room with walls
mirrors and a small showcase of China dolls
of giant size in my own mind I’ve got a glass jaw
I step outside and that’s when
I’m forced to take one on the chin
this new place is bigger and the harder I will fall

down the street to where it meets a higher piece of ground
climbing on, and now and then I take a look around
stop to rest and catch my breath leaving city lights and sounds
I close my eyes and that’s when
I’m forced to shed my thickest skin
and wait a while just to take in all I’ve found

I’m small like a raindrop come to rest in the ocean
small like the ant underground where he sleeps
the higher I fly, the smaller I seem
not quite as important as I’d like to think

here upon the mountaintop with my own eyes
far below, I can see the city lights
even though they don’t shine too bright
they reach outside of the night’s thin disguise

hear upon the midnight air with my own ears
the song I play, the words I sing,  way I feel
swallowed by a bigger sky
ripples flow above the stone sinking to the bottom

I scream out loud with my mouth from this high place on the mountain
My words go out to deaf ears overflowing like a fountain
but they all come back ‘cause no one hears
the silence of my echo…
::Sometimes Crying:: (2001)
music and lyrics by reese neal

Where did I ever get the idea that life would guarantee love
or if I could have plenty, then I'd finally have enough
Must have been a liar who said, "Lies nurture trust."
Yes, I'd like to hold your hand, but I'm afraid it would turn to dust.

So many people and places that don't ever cross my mind
Doin' what they do while I get left behind
in a world full of worry 'bout nothing else but mine
Yes, I'd like to love somebody, but I ain't got the time

or I won't take it, but she's offering to the best I've had
there's no mistaking her intentions; she don't wanna make me sad
but I don't know if it's the change or just the fear I have of trying
that makes me run and leaves me lonely
and sometimes crying

I'm so used to finding comfort in whatever makes the day go past
Doin' what I do, but I'm goin' nowhere fast
Sometimes I am so foolish that I can’t help but laugh
I’d like to feel forever but I haven’t had the chance...

Or I won’t take it, but she’s offering
to be the one I need
there’s no mistaking her intentions
she just wants to set me free
but I don’t know about the change
‘cause I’m afraid of tying
Make excuses to be lonely
Leave me crying
music and lyrics by reese neal

If it had been up to me, we never would have met
If it had been up to me, I never would have known your name
If it had been up to me, I’ll tell you exactly how it would be

We never met, but I saw you
lookin’ beautiful across the room
I wasn’t ever much good at talkin’
so what I did then was assume
that you wouldn’t want to talk to me
So I just stood my ground
Lookin’ at my dirty boots
I was feelin’ like a clown
I felt like a fool
‘cause you looked like a woman
that I’d like to know
Then I went my way and you your
and I never did see you anymore
If it had been up to me, we never would have met

If it hadn’t been for you, we never would have met
‘cause I just stood my ground
You walked up, introduced yourself
said you’d like me to show you around
After I stopped stuttering
and your laughter subside
hand in hand, our love began
and it has never died
And I’m glad you took it upon yourself
to invade my guarded heart
‘cause if it had been up to me, my darlin’
we’d have always been apart

If it had been up to me,
I’ll tell you exactly how it would be
Instead of singing songs about how much I love you
Instead of singing songs about your eyes
I’d be singing songs about loneliness and regret
If we’d never met
::Genove:: (2001)
lyrics by reese neal & robby cavner
music by reese neal

Maybe Genove doesn’t like the way she sees things
But she really hates the way she feels
The world she knows is so uncertain
The only things stable are the bad things
She really doesn’t care about tomorrow
Relives today inside her head

Genove, your heart is broken
Can’t you see my arms are open?
You’ve been afraid of taking chances for so long
I wish you’d learn to see yourself like I do
I wish you’d learn to see yourself like I do
Think of me, try to see, Genove

Maybe Genove feels sorry about herself
She cries so much you’d think she is all dried up
This woman-child has had enough
She’s tired of men who lie, people who steal
Daddy’s Little Princess days are gone now
Maybe she will find her way out somehow
music and lyrics by reese neal

Well we wait on buses and we wait on trains / We wait on stop lights and we wait on planes /
We wait for team captains to call out our
names / We wait for sunshine to come when it rains / We wait in lines and we wait in hope /
We wait in expectation / We wait in suspense and ignorance / We wait for vindication

We wait for love to come our way / We wait for something good to say / We wait for the right
one to come along / Wait by the radio for our favorite song / We wait for them to turn their
heads /  to see what we can do / We wait on a dance and wait on the kiss / and wait for calls so
they don’t get missed

Estoy esperando…

You wait for the chance to catch her eye / You wait all day just to see her smile / You wait on
the dock for fish to bite / and when you hook ‘em you find they break your line / We always
wait for what we want / even though we may not need it / and when what you need stares
you in the eyes / you cannot even see it
music and lyrics by reese neal

This is not supposed to be another sad song
So I guess it’s not about all you whoever done me wrong
And though the words that I say might imply that I’ve been down so long,
This is not supposed to be another sad, sad song

So I’ll wear a smile and sing “la la la la la”
And maybe after awhile I’ll fool you all
Into thinking that I’m happy with the way I wear my grin
Come on, everybody, let’s pretend
That this is not another sad song

I slept again today just to avoid all the pretty people and the bright lights
Wrote a song about me and you and love and how it’s high time
Then I burned it up to ashes very slowly by the heat of my green night light
What’s another wasted hour staring blankly at the wall?  This is my life

So I’ll wear a smile and sing “la la la la la”
And maybe after awhile I’ll fool you all
Into thinking that I’m happy that my laughter is sincere
Come on, everybody, while you’re here
Let’s pretend that this is not another sad song
::No Sugar, No Cream:: (2001)
music and lyrics by reese neal

I drink saltwater coffee / no sugar no cream / I think the way she sits there / is so beautiful /
Those eyes her smile / we share some lovely memories / Those lies disguise / but I won’t let
that bother me / Contrast night’s last / with all the bitterness / don’t ask me why / I don’t
know / who’s in my bed / with her sultry little eyes / She said instead / I’ll be sleeping here
tonight / And I can’t deny the way I feel / I only wish that this dream was real

Don’t wake me / from this sweet dream

Tell me now or tell me never / You know this dream won’t last forever / Tell me now or tell
me never / You know this dream won’t last / “I drink saltwater coffee no sugar no cream / I
think the way she sits there is so beautiful” / Tell me now or tell me never / Tell me more tell
me more tell me more / “There’s this girl / she’s the sweetest dream / and if she’s not real / if
she’s not real / if she’s not real / then leave me lyin’ here…

Don’t wake me / from this sweet dream
::Did You Get What You Wanted?:: (2000)
music and lyrics by reese neal

Now that I’ve given you all that I had
And now that you’ve left me here alone
I’m standing here with empty hands
It’s raining now and I’m so cold
I’m dying here just to know

Did you get what you wanted?
Hope you got what you wanted.
::Nest in Your Hair:: (2000)
music and lyrics by reese neal

Your saline eyes have crystallized
‘cause you’ve been crying, crying for so long
Did you even notice that the birds have built a nest in your hair?
And why am I surprised, when after all, you were just standing there?
Looking like a statue in the park
Unkempt and dirty, rather dark
Are you aware you’ve lost your sparkle?

You speak to no one
‘cause you’re hiding, hiding
Like a baby bird afraid of flying
Your saline eyes have crystallized
‘cause you’ve been crying, crying for years and years
Did you even notice that the birds have built a nest in your hair?
::The Signs are Gone:: (2001)
music and lyrics by reese neal

The signs are gone / The signs are gone / I cannot read your mind / or even move my pawn /
Blinded by the flash of dark that broke the dawn / Would you please tell me what frequency
that you are on? / The signs are gone
::Didn't Happen:: (2000)
lyrics by reese neal
music by nathan king

A spark
A flame
A consuming fire
Burns hot
Burns bright
Hot light

Beautifully new
thoughts of forever
takes flight

Untended it dwindles
Only flames now and embers
To ashes
Burned out
Turned cold
Got old

Smoke surrounds
Love drowns
Fades with fury

A spark may dwindle
A flame to embers
A consuming fire’s ashes

Burns cold
Burns dark
Don’t let it die

Set cruise control at 75 / Windows down enjoyin’ the ride / Just passed exit 21 / Now my trip
has just begun / Road construction couple years ago / Traffic moved a little slow / Had a
wreck barely came out alive / Got some scars but I survived

Now I’m movin’ on once again / laid back livin’ as best I can / Me and a friend drove out to
Little Rock / Saw Willis Alan Ramsey play his old folk rock / Saw flashing lights comin’ from
behind / Pulled on over but they drove on by

Sun’s still shinin’ high and warm / but clouds ahead are full of storm / Windshield wipers on
their highest speed / Rain’s a wall and I can’t see / lightnin’s bright and the thunder’s loud / if
it’d kept up we might’ve been drowned

Sky is clear now sky is blue / Miles and miles still no sign of you / I think I’d like a little
company / but the passenger seat is still empty / Hitchhiker walkin’ up a ways / Don’t’
usually pick ‘em up these days

Could’ve been a mean ‘un with a gun / No she was pretty but not the one / So I let her off and
I kept on drivin’ / Final destination undecided / but I know now what I want to do / Next stop
exit Y-O-U…

Got the cruise control at 75 / Lookin’ for you hopin’ to find / Underpass overpass haven’t
seen you yet / but how many times might we have met? / Rest stops pit stops gasoline /
Rarely takin’ time to sleep / I can hear you callin’ in my dreams / tryin’ to tell me where you’
ll be

You say you’re out there lookin’ for the one? / Well, honey he just passed exit 21 / He’s
northbound lookin’ for you too / Says his next stop is exit Y-O-U…

Cruise control at 75 / wishin’ you would quit your hidin’ / I’m going crazy / losin’ half my
mind / I won’t stop drivin’ ‘till I know your name/ The search is on ‘till I kiss your face / All
these girls are just the same / They all love to play their games

There’s just one thought that keeps me going / down this road without ever knowing / I’ve got
to find the girl I was born to love forever / You’re out there somewhere drivin’ around / radio
on and window down / Haven’t found you yet but when I do / we’ll drive on down to exit
honeymoon…
